A Note from the PTA President

Welcome back, Navigators!  Let me introduce myself as your new PTA President for the 2017-18 school year.  I am incredibly honored and excited to serve our school and help to make it a great year.  It was such fun to meet and see many of you at the Meet the Teacher event in August.  Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself and my fellow board members at our first PTA meeting of the school year.  I hope the presentation allowed you to get a better idea of what the Northside PTA does and how you can help to support our school and staff.

We have so many things planned for the upcoming months.  Please be on the look-out for email messages sent through our new system called Memberhub.  You can sign up at https://northsidenavigators.memberhub.com/join/bv5h1m to stay in the loop with the happenings at Northside, as well as receive calendar reminders and sign-ups to help at different events.  Please consider volunteering your time at our school.  A little or a lot is always appreciated.  Research shows that “When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.”  Plus, as a PTA volunteer you get to meet new people, feel more connected to the school and have fun!

As you may know, we are starting off the year in a challenging financial position.  Not only is our carry-over from the previous year low, but the district is no longer hosting the Walk for Education.  In past years, Northside has benefited financially from this large fundraising effort.  Therefore, your memberships, donations and fundraising participation are important to help fund our budget.  I’d like to extend a BIG thank you to those who have already purchased PTA memberships and made donations.  Your tax-deductible donations go toward enhanced educational experiences such as the learning garden and cultural arts events, clubs, field trips, teacher stipends for purchasing classroom supplies, professional development opportunities, staff appreciation events, and much more!

I look forward to a rewarding school year for all of our students, staff and families!

Warmly,

Kim Prejs
