President’s Report: A note from the PTA President

Happy Fall, Navigator Families!  What a busy September we have had at Northside.  I hope you all had the opportunity to attend the numerous events at our school this month, including Open House and the Back 2 School Festival.  Thank you to our wonderful teachers for providing information about our children’s day at school.  It’s so fun to have some insight into what they do all day.  If your kids are tired of hearing “what did you do in school today?” or “how was your day?” check out this helpful article called How to Say It: Better Questions to Ask Your Child About School.  You never know…asking a new question may spawn some thoughtful conversations at the dinner table!

The Back 2 School Festival was a festive night, and the Navigators on the Move staff did a great job organizing a successful family event for our school community to come together to celebrate the new year.  The PTA raised money for hurricane relief, and we were able to donate almost $100 to the Texas PTA Fill the Backpacks campaign thanks to your generosity in filling our donation jar and purchasing concessions.  Thank you to the staff and parent volunteers who made this fun event happen.

We look forward to upcoming events in October, such as the garden day, movie night and school dance, but you may notice an item missing from our annual calendar: Walk for Education.  The Chapel Hill Carrboro Public School Foundation has discontinued this huge fundraiser, which puts a strain on our already tight PTA budget.  As well, another historical source of income for CHCCS PTAs used to be the PTA Thrift Store.  Unfortunately, the PTA Thrift Store can no longer be counted on for unrestricted funds.  If you would like to find out more information about this controversial subject, take a look at this recent article published in The Herald Sun: Frustrated parents say Chapel Hill’s PTA Thrift Shop still isn’t answering questions.

So, again, we urge you to JOIN the PTA and to make a tax deductible donation.  We need YOUR support in order keep our programs funded and to fulfill our mission.  Join online or pay by cash or check by downloading this form.

Thank you,

Kim
